Checking the site for pages with errors

If a file in the root folder contains an error or possible error, the Status column of the Files tab shows an error icon rather than the usual checkmark (). The error icon also appears next to the file in navigation views and links views. Error icons are as follows:

  • A bug icon () indicates broken links in a Web page file.
  • An alert icon () indicates an empty page.
  • A stop icon () indicates a missing file. For information, see Checking the site for missing or orphan files.

  • An error icon in the Status column for a folder indicates one or more files with that error in the folder.

Missing files are displayed with a question mark icon () in the Name column. If you update the Files tab when it shows a missing file, the name of the file is moved to the Missing Files list in the Errors tab. The Errors tab also lists orphan files ().

To fix a broken link on a page listed with a bug icon ():

    1 Display the Inspector.

2 Double-click the page with the broken link in the Files tab.

3 If necessary, do either of the following to get information that may help you find the link:

  • Locate missing objects on the page--for example, an image placeholder where an image should be.
  • Look for link warnings--that is, objects or text with a red border. (If there are none, make sure that link warnings are showing. For information, see Selecting viewing options.

  • 4 Select the object or text on the page whose link needs fixing.

5 Inspect the link in the Source or URL text box of the Inspector.

6 Reestablish the link--for example, by dragging from the point-and-shoot button to a file.
